BLACK IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY

Is black in? This has been a heavy subject for quite some time in the fashion industry.

You will especially see this evident on the runways of New York, Paris, Milan , and London. Where are my beautiful black models? Are we not beautiful? I know I am beautiful in the eyes of my beholder but what say you? (I was watching Romeo and Juliet. Do not judge me!!) What say you Prada, Diane von Furstenberg, D&G, etc (the list goes on). Is the tone of my skin not good enough to touch the fabric of your precious clothes? I would greatly think that the evolution of time, designers  will be a great example of what is right and wrong. Yes, in Milan they have bandwagoned in support of the weight requirements models must be in order to be featured for their shows but what about the increase in using black models?! Yes, Vogue Italia dedicated a whole magazine to prominent “black” models , and……how long ago was that?!.(By the way, there were still white models featured in the magazine. We can not have them ALL be black or the magazine will not sell). Yes, Lanvin made a closing statement by having prominent black models close the show. OK. AND……
I am not stating that I am not in support of what some designers are doing to bring light of the lack of black models on the runways or in/on magazines but more must be done. Why must I open a magazine only to view a pasty white model looking back at me. The last I noticed, OMG I AM BLACK. How do I relate to this model except for the fact we both have the same colour blood and we both walk up right (I hope). I recently watched a video where a prominent designer stated, “ we want black models, but the casting agents only send white models”. #sideeyelook Really?!! Is it me or am I not under the impression this is your show? Why not specify to the casting agents you are also looking for black models?! Please also take responsibility. I do not want to leave out my Asian models. I do say reviewing the amount of “ethnic” models featured on the 2012-2013 runways, I believe I counted 2-4 “ethnic” models to the 10-16 Caucasian models. Interesting!!

I will end this in saying black is beautiful. God did not make a  mistake and you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
